LOWRY SPEAKER SERIES – GUEST: BIRD CONSERVANCY OF THE ROCKIES
Tuesday, August 7, 2018; 7-8:30 PM, Eisenhower Chapel
Bird Conservancy of the Rockies joins the Lowry Speaker Series for a talk about the importance and wonders of birds. What species of birds do we typically see in Colorado? How do we tell them apart (field marks, sounds, behaviors, location)? How do we learn about birds? What is bird banding and why, when and where is it done? What are bird banding ethics? What is a mist net? How do we extract a bird from a net? How do we hold a bird? How do we measure and weigh birds, and how do we record the data? What patterns and trends do we see? How and when do we release birds back into the wild? Interested audience members will be able to practice the bird banding process themselves with felt birds (NOTE: there will be no live birds at this presentation). Free and open to the public; no reservations or tickets necessary. For more information, please call Karen House at (720) 955-8833.
